Fundació Mies van der Rohe and SCALAE event poster for October 29, 2026, featuring La Carbonería by Ángel Borrego Cubero (OSS).

Architect Ángel Borrego Cubero, head of Office for Strategic Spaces, will participate in “On Urban Faces and Fragments” (A propósito de rostros y fragmentos urbanos), a panel organized by SCALAE in collaboration with the Mies van der Rohe Foundation on October 29, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.

Borrego Cubero will present La Carbonería, a collective housing rehabilitation project located on the oldest built-up plot in Barcelona’s Eixample district. The event will explore different approaches to urban regeneration and the transformation of existing buildings and spaces, focusing on the rehabilitation of party walls and the reinterpretation of architectural heritage.

The discussion will also feature the Centre Cultural Sant Pau in Tarragona, presented by Jordi Fernández and Eduardo Gutiérrez of ON-A Architects. Both projects will be discussed by a panel of architects involved in the transformation of Barcelona’s urban fabric, including Mercè Zazurca, Rosina Vinyes, Gloria Viladrich, Núria Rodríguez, Xavier Granados, and Carlos Montero.

Organized as part of Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture, the event concludes a two-part series dedicated to the transformation and reinterpretation of urban and architectural fragments. The programme is curated by Anna Ramos, director of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, and Félix Arranz, architect and editor of SCALAE.
