AAAEE 1

The director of the International Art Fair Madrid ARCO asked a chill-out space. The purpose was to produce a rest space where you had to do more exercise. In first place, the rest was produced by forcing the body to leave the horizontal movement and to climb onto to the back of an object 6 meters high. The object is an architectonical element, an out of place stair leading to nowhere. Depending on the moment and the height, the stair changes into a viewpoint, a meeting point, bleaches from where to see a show, a fashion runway, a place from where to look out and a place where to be seen. In second place, the rest was for the eyes and the sight under. The void of the pavilion was recovered and used in order to see from above. Art seen from 6 meters up.

Speedwall

SpeedWall critically plays with the relationships between high-tech, typically associated, when about construction, with metallic finishes, and its caricature as low-tech using a simple domestic aluminum foil roll. Aluminum foil roll preserves food, but here it preserves the museum’s or art gallery’s white wall. This project came up as an installation for the Family Abad’s Beach House located in Cabo de Gata. The aluminium bands emphasize the land off speed of the inhabitant to the near sea and dissolve the wall texture and its gravity.

Cacharros

Cacharros is a video record, produced during half a year, of the process of drying the dishes and the kitchen’s pots over a plane surface. The absence of a specific object for this use, makes the dishes accumulate, in silence, ones over others, each day in a different way. This record, edited quicker than its real velocity, is shown in a big format on an existent wall at the exhibition space, in a way that the dishes can have almost two meters.

The Chase

In this video installation we envision Madrid as the stage for a choreography of control and surveillance spaces. We made two simultaneous video records, the first one from the traffic control cameras of the Madrid City Hall. The second one was made from a bike which makes a route around Madrid. Both records reproduce the same route around Madrid from different points of view. Madrid turns into the main protagonist of this pursuit in its streets. The simultaneousness of the 2 records produces a perception tramp which makes audience believe that everything is happening in real time.

Dead

The atlas of human anatomy of the German Dr. Rohen and the Japanese Dr. Yokochi shows on the chapters dedicated to the neck and to the head, pictures where it is possible to recognize  the corpse used to be examined and exhibited. It is a luxury edition, different in its photography the quality from other anatomy books. Although, it is difficult to believe that the headless or skinless persons had agreed with ceasing their last pictures for publications. With this project, born from having recognized a close relative among the published corpses, I  try to give them that lacking story  after having removed the pretended hygienic filter of the academic reference arrows

Volareee

The new promotion law gives 1% from the budget to public art works. A competition is organized to make a sculpture to be placed in the  neighborhood  Lakua-2 in Vitoria, to be produced with the total sum …whit the surprise that this piece would be located in front of the siege of the  Basque Government. The brief calls for a “representative” piece that must cost maximum 80 millions of pesetas (500.000 €). Our answer to this call is actually a question. How high can you get with 80 millions? Height gives representativeness, so the higher the better, isn’t it? Our proposal consists of a carbon fiber tube, painted in nonstick golden color provided of little holes containing fiberglass light transmitters. Having organized the material in order to get as high as possible, gives to the piece an extreme thinness and, of course, flexibility. With just a little burst the tube starts to move, with a characteristic wave. A flexibility metaphor is produced, recalling at the same time something desirable but also the whip that punishes. The great  height and the object’s movements establish amazing relationships with the public at  different distances.

Z1. We are here

Installation at the deserted concrete factory Z1 in Berlin’ s suburb. The building’s volume stands out above the surrounding area. Four airport lights were placed at the top corners, these flicked gradually, subverting the common language of the luminous signals.
